The RISA-3D online tutorials are intended to demonstrate the "real world" design process. This means we won't just enter the data once, solve the model and miraculously have a completed design.

Just as in the real world, we'll enter the data, solve the model, review results, go back and make changes, etc. Any program can look good for a "one time through, no mistakes" data entry procedure; the real test is how easily you can change your model.

In this tutorial, we'll make use of both the spreadsheet and graphic drawing capabilities of RISA-3D. We'll run through the steps of each segment in the five-part tutorial quickly, covering as much information as we can. You are not expected to follow along in RISA-3D. The purpose is to give you an excellent overview of the software. For a detailed, step-by-step explanation of each tutorial, please consult the RISA-3D User's Guide .

The tutorials are self-running, voice- and text-narrated Flash® tours. You will require a fast Internet connection and a screen resolution of at least 1024x768.

The available tutorials are listed below. To start a tutorial, click it's name.

Tutorial 1: Modeling (Approx. time 8 minutes)

In Tutorial 1, we'll create a 2-D frame comprised of a concrete frame supporting a wood truss.

Tutorial 2: Modifying (Approx. time 7 minutes)

In this tutorial, we'll "extrude" the 2-D frame structure into a 3D model, adding steel beams, girts and plates.

Tutorial 3: Loading (Approx. time 7 minutes)

Tutorial 3 will show how to define loads in the model using RISA-3D's powerful spreadsheet features.

Tutorial 4: Solving & Results (Approx. time 8 minutes)

Tutorial 4 will teach how to run static solutions and review the results.

Tutorial 5: Dynamic Analysis (Approx. time 5 minutes)

Tutorial 5 will demonstrate dynamic analysis and seismic design.
